Art of Batik

I met these ladies in Taiwan as I went to visit the National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall in Taipei, Taiwan. I was very curious about Batik, but language was a factor.

That day was insanely hot and I was pouring sweat. But I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to shoot with them.

As I wiped sweat from my viewfinder, I couldn’t have been more grateful for the timing of the situation.

Despite the language barrier, a combination of hand gestures and charades helped us execute the creative vision.

After about 10 minutes, security forced us away from the non-tourist side of the building. But I was happy with the work.

I wish I could share more about the culture of Batik, but a quick google search would give you more knowledge than I have. I’ll learn Indonesian and Chinese so next time I can ask questions.
